Bruarpotturinn
Situated in the remote landscapes of Westfjords in Iceland, where geothermal activity has been an enduring natural phenomenon, lies Brúarpotturinn—a secluded pool, almost under the bridge. This natural pool serves as a reminder of the ties between the Icelandic people and their land, a relationship nurtured over centuries. While there is an abundance of natural hot springs and bathing spots in Iceland, this particular one stands apart - retaining a sense of undisturbed serenity that has become increasingly rare in today's bustling world.
However, there have been some reviews where people claim that this hot pot is not maintained - if you have been there recently, please let us know, and please send us pictures. We included an associative picture of Westfjords in Iceland, but we would love to have a picture of the hot pot, too.
History & Details
Brúarpotturinn, which translates to "Bridge Pot," is not your run-of-the-mill tourist destination; it is a place where you can genuinely experience an Icelandic connection to the Earth.
The pool's architecture is simple, reflecting the no-frills Icelandic aesthetic. Essentially a natural hot spring converted into a pool, its earthy structure is built from surrounding rocks and materials.
Amenities
Brúarpotturinn provides a rustic experience that aligns with the surrounding natural habitat. The site does not have dressing rooms, lockers, or snack bars; it's just you and the Earth here. However, this only adds to its allure. It is advisable to bring along your towels, water, and perhaps a packed meal if you plan to spend some time soaking in nature's splendour.
No lifeguards are on duty, and no amenities are offered.
Location & Nearby Attractions
Brúarpotturinn is easy to get to from the road - right next to it. Other natural hot springs are often relatively inaccessible. However, the remoteness of the location in western Iceland means you will need hours of driving from any other part of Iceland to get there. Tálknafjördur Campsite is about three kilometres away - so it is possible to pitch a tent and rest after a long drive.
Transportation from Reykjavik
Reaching Brúarpotturinn is challenging. The best way is by renting a car, which would also give you the most flexibility. The journey takes approximately 6 hours and is about 407 km one way.
